한발 앞선 디자인, 하이퍼-조각, 질서와 무질서 사이의 균형 등을 지속적으로 선보여온 벨기에의 스튜디오 아르네 깽즈(Studio Arne Quinze: SAQ)가 최근 레스토랑 "퀸트(KWINT)"의 인테리어를 끝마쳤다.
벨기에의 수도 브뤼셀의 중심가, '예술의 언덕(Mont des Arts)에 위치한 '"퀸트"는 규모는 작지만 기발한 아이디어가 넘치는 공간이다. 퀀트가 자리한 건물은 1958년 브뤼셀 세계 박람회 기간 중에 만들어진 의회 궁전(Congress Palace)으로, 한동안 비워져 있다가 리노베이션 작업을 통해 "스퀘어-브뤼셀 회의 센터(SQUARE-Brussels Meeting Centre)"로 재탄생되었다. 참고로 "스퀘어"는 현재 지역민들과 방문객들에게 회의 공간이나 새로운 경험을 제공하는 공공 건물로 이용되고 있다. 
"퀸트"는 건물이 담고 있는 역사성과 현대를 조화롭게 연결한다. 5개의 아치형 창문은 꼭 맞게 디자인된 유리로 감싸져 있는데, 이 창을 통해 공간 속에 파고드는 자연광이나 아름다운 도시 광경은 건물과 외부현실을 소통시키고 있다. 
레스토랑 공간 전체를 아우르는 따뜻하고 중성적인 색조는 역사적 건물의 자연석과 조화를 이루며 친근한 분위기를 조성한다. 창의 반대쪽에 있는 긴 벽은 독특한 질감, 따뜻함 그리고 공간을 수직적으로 구분하기 위한 시각적 단서를 제공한다. 또한 "퀸트"의 가구들은 이러한 전체적인 디자인 콘셉트이나 분위기에 맞게 제작되었다. 
한편, 내부에 설치된 30미터 길이의 비정형 형태의 조각물은 외부 사물의 상을 비추는 동시에 빛을 굴절시키고 있는데, 이는 자칫 밋밋할 수 있는 내부에 악센트 효과를 주어 드라마틱한 공간으로 전환시키고 있다. 
스튜디오 아르네 깽즈는 이번 레스토랑 "퀸트"의 작업을 통해 아름다운 인테리어 공간의 또 하나의 걸작을 보여주었다.
